The St. George’s Society English Ball, held to mark the feast of England’s patron, Saint George, has been held almost continuously since the founding of the Society back in 1770, when it was known as the Sons of St. George. In 1995, the Society established the Medal of Honor, to recognize a person for exemplary service to British interests and/or the international community at large and it was decided that this honor would be awarded every year at the English Ball.
The English Ball has developed into a major fundraiser which enables the Society to fulfill its historical mission of giving advice and relief to those less fortunate British and Commonwealth citizens in the New York area. The Society receives no government funding and all monies raised through Ball participation go directly to the social care and financial well-being of the beneficiaries.
Your support of this rich historic legacy is critical and participation by members, supporters and friends of the Society is both needed and welcome.
Here is a video from the 2016 English Ball honoring Sir Martin Sorrell, Chief Executive of WPP who received the Medal of Honor in recognition of his significant contribution to transatlantic business relations, Danny Lopez who received the Order of St. George’s Society for his service as Her Majesty's Consul General in New York and Amanda Foreman, award-winning historian and 2016 Man Booker Prize Chair, who received the Anglo-American Cultural Award for her outstanding achievements in the US-UK cultural world.
