Scholarship Program
St. George's Society of New York's Scholarship Program provides critical financial aid to college students who have achieved excellent academic standing, but due to financial hardship are unable to complete their final year of undergraduate studies.
With the national college drop-out rate at over 55%, we are committed to breaking down the financial barriers that often prevent promising students from completing their education. Our scholars—all of British or Commonwealth heritage—come from low-income households and are primarily first-generation college students, students of color and working adults.
In addition to financial support, we also provide enrichment opportunities including an alumni network, quarterly professional development workshops, complimentary one-year memberships to SGSNY and a mentoring program which pairs scholars with members and partners who give personal and professional guidance.

St. George’s Society of New York is pleased to share that it recently hosted current SGSNY scholars and alumni at our annual Scholarship Reception.
It is graduation season, and we couldn’t be prouder of our SGSNY Class of 2022! Marking a 100% completion rate for the Scholarship Program this academic year, our 24 graduates have earned a host of distinctions and awards, and the number of postgraduate acceptance letters, scholarship awards, and employment offers continue to come in. We are delighted to welcome this esteemed group of students to our growing community of 440+ SGSNY Scholar alums!
We are pleased to announce that 25 CUNY students from across NYC's five boroughs have been selected to receive scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year. Established in 2008, SGSNY’s Scholarship Program seeks to close the education and opportunity gap by providing critical financial aid and professional development opportunities to final-year students from historically underserved communities. This year’s cohort represents 11 Commonwealth nations and an exciting range of academic disciplines including nursing, anthropology, accounting, digital media and social work. When Ahmed immigrated from Ghana to New York, he saw it as an opportunity to pursue his dream of studying medicine. His scholarship from St. George’s Society gave him the reassurance and confidence to continue his journey to become an orthopedic surgeon.
In Natalie’s home country of Jamaica, college was just a dream but after immigrating to America, it became a reality. Thanks to the St. George’s Society scholarship, Natalie will graduate with her BA in Biology in May–putting her one step closer to her lifelong ambition to become a doctor.
Balancing school with two jobs as a research assistant and patient care technician, Fiona is one of the first people in her family to attend university. Thanks to her scholarship, Fiona graduated in June 2017.

2016’s scholars come from an array of countries and major in a variety of degrees. One example is Sana from Pakistan, whose ambition is to become a cardiac surgeon.
A Biology major, Esthelle was awarded a St. George’s Society Scholarship in July 2016. Passionate about helping low-income students succeed in the classroom, she hopes to one day to launch an organization that provides access to good quality education and mentoring for less fortunate children.
