Discussion Notes:

This event is presented to the United Nations during UN Interfaith Harmony Week in the interests of interfaith dialogue and concern for the welfare of humanity.

Artificial intelligence (AI), referring to the intelligence that can be attributed to machines rather than to living beings, has quickly become one of the most significant, and highly debated, areas of technological development. Al is now adeptly capable of not only aggregating massive amounts of data but also of presenting solutions and narratives that incorporate accurate data with utilizable outcomes.

As Al continues to advance, its influence on the economic sector, governments, media, academia, the nonprofit sector, military affairs, and culture and society more broadly-including social spaces involving ethics and faith-is both inevitable and undeniable. This leads to significant ethical questions that need to be addressed to ensure that machine learning does not manipulate, nor supersede, either human decision capacity or the moral and ethical frameworks of society. Are we dealing here with a new paradigm which requires us to develop systems and mechanisms to replace something old with something new, allowing us to have overall control, or does the advent of Al represent the moment when the advancement of humanity is no longer subject to human oversight?
