St. George's Society of New York to Honor Bob Dudley at Annual Fundraising Gala on 25th April
2019 English Ball Celebrates Shared Commitment to Community

NEW YORK, NY (25 March 2019) - St. George’s Society of New York—one of the oldest charities in America—will host its annual black-tie fundraiser, the English Ball on Thursday 25th April 2019, at Guastavino’s in New York City. Honoring BP Chief Executive, Bob Dudley, for his commitment to the transatlantic business community, the gala will support St. George’s Society’s charitable programs as well as unite community leaders and corporate professionals. He will be introduced by Lord George Robertson, former Secretary General of NATO.
Bob Dudley became Chief Executive of BP in 2010. He joined the oil and gas industry in 1979 and over 40 years has held a variety of engineering, commercial, strategy and executive posts in the US, the UK and Russia, where he was chief executive of TNK-BP from 2003-2008. As Chief Executive, Dudley has transformed BP into a safer, stronger and simpler business, guiding it through a number of difficult times. Today, the company is delivering excellent results. Dudley’s external roles include membership of various Business Councils and Advisory Boards and he chairs the Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI). He is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
St. George’s Society of New York is proud to present Dudley with the 2019 Medal of Honor, which was established in 1996 to recognize those who have rendered exemplary service to British interests and the international community at large.

Dudley will be honored alongside Tim Marlow, Creative Director of the Royal Academy of Art, who will receive the Anglo-American Cultural Award.

The English Ball is St. George’s Society’s largest and most important fundraising event of the year—directly supporting the Society’s charitable programs, which provide financial and emotional support for people of British and Commonwealth heritage in New York. First established in 1770 as a banquet to celebrate Saint George, the patron saint of England, it has been held with rare exceptions every year since and is now established as the premier Anglo-American social event in the city. More than 350 business and community leaders, philanthropists and supporters of the charity will gather to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2019 honorees. During the evening’s “Fund-A-Scholar” auction, guests will have the opportunity to sponsor scholarships for final-year, low-income students at Lehman and Hunter Colleges, both part of the City University of New York.
