Mary Lamasney to Step Down as Full-Time Social Worker
It is with the deepest gratitude and some sadness that we announce the impending semi-retirement of our beloved Mary Lamasney.
Mary has been with St. George’s Society of New York for 13 years, succeeding Carol Chetrick as the Manton Social Worker in 2008. During her tenure, Mary has worked with over 500 seniors—helping them navigate the complexities of the social services landscape and ensuring they are able to age with dignity and security.
At the onset, Mary’s extensive experience and close relationships with local agencies set a new standard of professionalism for the Beneficiary Program.
She streamlined our client referral process and created a more rigorous vetting procedure allowing the Society to increase its capability and take on an additional part-time Social Worker.
She spearheaded the expansion of partnerships with fellow charities to better leverage our resources and capacity to serve more seniors.
She developed several senior socialization activities including the annual Wendy Shadwell Tea and the Shadwell Buddies.
Mary has been instrumental in bringing a more humanizing element to the Beneficiary Program. Her ability to build trust and relationships with our seniors, and tell their stories has opened the door to the wider SGSNY community. Anyone who has had the pleasure of listening to her testimonials will tell you how important and compelling the work she does truly is.
In recognition of her remarkable service, she was named to Crain New York’s list of 2021 Notables in Nonprofits & Philanthropy.
Her final day as full-time staff will be 31 October 2021, at which time Julie Rosenberg will take over as the full-time Manton Social Worker. Mary will continue to work for SGSNY one day a week.
We cannot thank Mary enough for the dedication, passion and enthusiasm she has given the Society. While this is not goodbye, her regular appearances and characteristic “be wells” will nonetheless be missed.
