SGSNY Welcomes 25 Students to Scholarship Program for 2021-22 Year

We are pleased to announce that 25 CUNY students from across NYC's five boroughs will receive scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Scholars were selected after an intensive review process by the Scholarship Committee, chaired by the David Martinelli. This year’s cohort represents 11 Commonwealth nations and an exciting range of academic disciplines including nursing, anthropology, accounting, digital media and social work.

With last year’s expansion, the Scholarship Program now serves students from five CUNY institutions: Lehman College in the Bronx, Hunter College in Manhattan, City Tech in Brooklyn, Queens College and the College of Staten Island.

Established in 2008, the program seeks to close the education and opportunity gap by providing financial aid to final-year students of historically underserved communities who have achieved excellent academic standing but lack the financial means to complete their education. In addition to critical financial support, scholars also receive invaluable enrichment opportunities such as mentoring and career development workshops—helping to bridge the divide between college and employment.

This year’s awards were made possible thanks to contributions during our spring Fund-A-Scholar Appeal. We would like to extend special acknowledgement to the members of SGSNY’s 1786 Circle who made significant investments in the future of our scholars.
