Welcome Steve!

  1. Could you tell us a bit about what yourself? Where did you grow up? When did you move to New York? What do you do for a living? Any fun passions or hobbies you’d like to share?

Born and raised on Long Island, after living in Connecticut for several years I returned to Long Island where in 2006 I joined St. George’s. I now reside in Sutton Place. I’m 30-years in the commercial finance sector working for banks or boutique and large non-bank firms. My longest tenure was 13 years with General Electric Capital. I played men’s ice hockey into my 50s and still get on the ice on occasion. My golf game needs work, but I’ve enjoyed seeing the professionals up close at tournaments. I’m up to 15 countries I’ve traveled to across North America, Europe and the African continent. I dabble in writing historical fiction.

  2. When and how did you first learn about St. George’s Society of New York?

    2006

  3. What made you interested in joining the Board of Directors?

As an 18-year member I’m proud of my time and support to St. George’s but I felt compelled to do more for what is my cherished and preferred charity.

  4. What hopes do you have for the Society during your term on the board? If you know, where would you like to be involved?

I’m hoping the Society can expand on it’s charitable mission by virtue of increased membership, enhanced donor interest, a vibrant events calendar and strong corporate partners.

  5. What was the biggest culture shock about NYC when you first moved here?

No real shock given a life living at NYC’s doorstep and being a frequent visitor. My departed wife Elizabeth loved the energy and we had hoped to move here, so I fulfilled that dream solo.

  6. What’s your favourite moment so far, from your involvement at St George’s?

I connected with Sir Harold Evans, previous editor of the London Sunday Times and supporter of the Society. We had some very common threads as to the history he and his team reported on and which I had read and researched. He was kind enough to invite me to his flat for a chat on history over a cup of tea. Priceless!

  7. What’s your best NYC memory?

There are so many… During COVID Elizabeth and I celebrated a wedding anniversary in a unique, COVID safe way. We drove to Manhattan safely in our car, stayed at the Lowell, wiping down the suite. We had a wood burning fireplace (!) and while the wonderful restaurant Marjorelle was closed for seating, we ordered a room service dinner from Marjorelle and the staff at the Lowell had set up a dining table with fine china, cutlery, crystal champagne flutes and a bottle of bubbly. We celebrated in style in our own cocoon.
