New Board Member: Sarah ‘Ginge’ Calhoun
Welcome Ginge!
Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I grew up in Lytham St Annes (Northwest England....not far from Blackpool ;) and lived there for many years before spending 4 years at University in Bath. After moving from the UK to LA I then moved to the UES NY in 2014. I later to moved to New Jersey and now live in Morristown. I am a Realtor and founding agent at Compass NJ, Short Hills where I co-lead a top-producing team. I also founded Brits of Compass in 2023 - a group of British Compass agents serving the USA (and having a great time doing it). When I am not working I love to travel with family and friends. I love trying new restaurants and wine!
2. When and how did you first learn about St. George’s Society of New York?A Compass Colleague and Friend who joined "Brits of Compass" introduced me to SGS in 2022. It was SO great to meet so many Brits living in NYC and the surrounding area.
3. What made you interested in joining the board of directors?
I was keen to join the board so I could be further involved with SGS and offer my network & skills to SGS.
4. What hopes do you have for the Society during your term on the board? If you know, where would you like to be involved?
I would love to know more about the various committees. I love to plan events and feel I could excel here.
5. What was the biggest culture shock about NYC when you first moved here? The COLD!! After living in the UK for 25+ years I moved to LA for 5 years. I almost perished our first winter in NY and if it were not for a new coat (which was basically a floor length hooded duvet) I may have not made it to another winter!
6. What’s your favourite moment so far, from your involvement at St George’s?
I love meeting members/guests of SGS and making connections. I have made new friends through society and love being part of an organization that gives back via its members. So far my favorite memories are meeting new people!
7. What’s your best NYC memory?Working at the statue of liberty for a summer when I was 19!!
