Celebrating St. George's Day 2018

In celebration of St. George’s Day, many of our community partners celebrated their English pride while raising over $1,800 for the Society’s charitable programs.

Our friends at The Churchill, Dog & Bone, Jones Wood Foundry, The Shakespeare and Black Rabbit donated a portion of proceeds from traditional English favorites such as fish and chips, pies and full English breakfasts.

Ahead of St. George’s Day, Wetherby-Pembridge School invited the St. George’s team to lead an activity with their students. Using the story of Saint George and the dragon, we taught them about charity and how important acts of kindness—no matter how small—can make a big difference in the lives of people in need. The children created a banner using outlines of their “helping hands” which displayed their own acts of kindness. A few days later, on St. George’s Day, children at the school wore red and white in support St. George’s Society’s mission.

England Day NYC “celebrated all things English with a New York attitude” with a party at The Churchill on Saturday 21st April. The DJ played English classics all night and a prize for the best costume was awarded to a guest dressed as fish ‘n’ chips! St. George’s Society also hosted a raffle and winners took home tickets to an NYCFC match, bottles of Chapel Down sparkling wine, a Sunday roast for two at The Churchill and bottles of Brockman’s Gin.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated St. George’s Day and helped us to raise important funds and awareness for St. George’s Society of New York.
