St. George's Society Awards Scholarships to 24 Students for the 20/21 Academic Year
St. George’s Society of New York is pleased to announce that 24 students from Lehman and Hunter Colleges will receive scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year.
The Society’s Scholarship Program was established in 2008 to provide funding to low-income, final-year students of British or Commonwealth heritage who have achieved excellent academic standing but lack the financial means to complete their education. Since the Program began, St. George’s Society has served over 400 scholars totaling more than $1 million in financial aid. In addition to financial support, scholars also receive mentoring and professional development opportunities as well as a complimentary 1-year membership to the Society.
Scholars were selected after an intensive review process by the Scholarship Committee, which is chaired by the Society’s First Vice President, David Drinkwater. With majors including accounting, music, nursing, social work and speech pathology, the 2020 cohort represents an exciting breadth of disciplines.
This year’s scholarships are made possible thanks to contributions by The Manton Foundation, Pathways Partners—BP America and Coller Capital—and a collective of generous individual and corporate donors.
For these students, the scholarship represents a chance at a brighter future. Sandy*, the 2020 Coller Capital Scholar, is currently completing a dual-degree in Accounting and Health Services Administration at Lehman. With the scholarship and her financial burden eased, she will be able to focus on her studies and get one step closer to her goal of becoming a licensed CPA.
