‘America’s Singing Poet’ - Steve DePass

Mary, Marie and Katie recently went to visit one of our long-standing Beneficiaries, 92 year-old Steve DePass. Steve’s family emigrated to the United States from Jamaica, enabling him to build a family and career in New York City.

When Steve fell into financial hardship, St. George’s Society of New York was able to assist and allow him to remain in his apartment of more than 45 years. He regularly speaks of how grateful he is to the Society, and how the aid of our social workers has improved his well being.

His biggest passion throughout his life is poetry, and he has been coined ‘America’s Singing Poet.’ He recently got to share his poems at an intergenerational event at St. George’s with the kids at The British International School of NY and with other Beneficiaries at our Christmas Tea at Saint Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue.

Your contribution goes a long way in helping Steve and our other Beneficiaries. Even a small donation can make a big difference in allowing individuals to live out their lives with dignity and support.

If you’re able to donate to our Beneficiary Program, you can do so here
