Member Spotlight: Meet Pat Lucas
Introducing Pat Lucas, our member spotlight! You may have seen Pat at a number of SGSNY events since he arrived in New York 9 months ago with his wife, Sorcha. Pat moved across the pond with The Information Lab as a Data Consulting Lead, with expertise in Tableau, Alteryx, Snowflake & SQL. More recently, Pat moved into an Account Executive role where he is supporting the business across the US and Canada region. The Information Lab is a Data & Analytics Consultancy that specializes in Tableau & Alteryx. The Information Lab has been generous enough to host our Semi-AGM in October!
How did you come to learn about St. George's Society of NY?
Funny story - we all know Richard Sexton. Turns out Rich and I had a couple of mutual connections before we were introduced. Rich was a part of my home athletics club, Croydon Harriers, before moving out to NYC and my coach introduced Rich and I when I moved out here. Rich then emailed me with a photo of him alongside The Information Lab's Founder (Tom Brown) and Managing Director (Toby Sharpe, SGSNY member) in The Information Lab's new office since, of course, Rich found our awesome space for us. Anyway, Rich recommended SGSNY to me and I thought, why not? Sorcha and I attended our first event in October 2023.
What is your favorite part of being a SGSNY member?
Meeting new people! I've always been pretty confident chatting to and getting to know people in a sporting environment as that's been a large part of my life (Athletics, Soccer (still kills me to say Soccer), Rugby). Having that same confidence in a networking / business environment was something I really didn't have as I'd never had that exposure. Meeting so many friendly SGSNY members, some of whom are now good friends, I can safely say this confidence has since grown exponentially.
How has being a part of SGSNY helped you as a new New Yorker (personally and/or professionally)?
Many members of SGSNY have been in and around NYC for many years so their advice and experience has been invaluable. Hearing their journeys and understanding their career development path has inspired me to view my time in NYC differently. I'm not just looking to enjoy NYC for what it is, I want to consistently develop and push myself both personally and professionally. Recently, I pitched to Senior Leadership at The Information Lab to join British and American Businesses (BAB). This was initially met with skepticism, but then with optimism! We're now a proud member and I'm leading our charge.
What is your favorite place in NYC? Favorite food or meal you've had since you've been here?
I'm based in Hoboken and being able to remove myself from the craziness of Manhattan after work and to have the views of the Manhattan skyline is amazing. I do love the West Village but Williamsburg probably wins it for me. I've only been there a few times but it has a great vibe and the 'Birds of a Feather' restaurant is just brilliant!
